Magnesium hydroxide is a physical flame retardant with three functions of flame retardant, smoke suppression and filling in rubber and plastics. It has the characteristics of non-toxic, tasteless, good stability, non-volatile, high degree of decomposition and no corrosion. It is the preferred material for halogen-free flame retardant of organic polymer.
Magnesium hydroxide flame retardant releases bound water during thermal decomposition and absorbs a large amount of latent heat to reduce the surface temperature of the synthetic material it fills in in the flame. It can inhibit the decomposition of polymer and cool the combustible gas. The decomposed magnesium oxide is a good refractory, which can help improve the fire resistance of synthetic materials. At the same time, the water vapor it emits can also be used as a smoke inhibitor.
